The idea first came to Stacey Dorfman, owner, during her years in Washington, D.C., where the social side of her involvement in politics and international affairs brought her face to face, she says, with inaccessibility of high quality merchandise without battling the mall. |

Ms. Dorfman's love of quality and eye for details eventually focused on retail development and marketing, which led to projects with Givenchy, Charles Jourdan, Benetton, Gucci, and positions as public relations director of Saks-Jandel and the former Garfinkel's. Finally at home in Dallas, Ms. Dorfman's eye for detail materialized into a new concept in accessory boutiques: a hands-on pageant of stylish colors and textures for women of all ages and sizes. Opening in June 1994, Sheers freed women to come in contact with the right body suit, hosiery, accessories, and more with the convenience of one stop shopping. "The fashion experts on staff make this a place to explore, acquire, and walk out with something that makes you look and feel fabulous," says Ms. Dorfman. Ms. Dorfman's bodywear bar is an actual bar, an attractive free-standing counter through the store's center that invites her customers to examine -- in many cases, to discover -- the fine textures and fabrics taken from the rich wooden cubicles that line the walls. Among the newer materials, women will find microfiber hosiery -- a softer and more durable material whose weave inhibits runs. "I believe that Dallas women are ready for anything that takes less time to look sharper and feel better," says Ms. Dorfman. Ms. Dorfman oversees the daily operations of Sheers and handles the retail buying from fashion centers throughout the world. |
